About Visions of Tomorrow NC

Who We are

Visions of Tomorrow NC is a donor supported non-profit registered 501(c)(3) with oversight provided by a dedicated Board of Volunteer Trustees. Together with the devoted Board of Trustees who contribute their time, energy, guidance, and ideas, Visions of Tomorrow NC relies on a staff of enthusiastic volunteers. Funding is provided by private individual and corporate donations along with contributions of Members and often the Board and Staff reaching into their own pockets to facilitate our mission of social change.

The foundational Mission of Visions of Tomorrow NC is to provide community re-entry support resources to those incarcerated in the North Carolina Prison System. Realizing that families and especially the children were affected by an individual’s incarceration, Visions of Tomorrow NC has expanded its work to focus on family support resources.

The Visions of Tomorrow NC Scholarship Program

Over the years Visions of Tomorrow NC provided aid in finding transitional housing and job training to those recently released from North Carolina Correctional Facilities. VOT NC also offered family support resources in an effort to cement the relationship bonds that are vital in diminishing recidivism. VOT NC has worked with inmates and their families throughout the incarceration period and in the immediate months following release. Throughout the years we have found it more difficult to effectively serve the children because of impediments placed by restrictive policies of individual administrators.

As we recover from the changes of the 2020-2022 pandemic effects, the Administrators and Staff of Visions of Tomorrow NC is transitioning to a new vision of tomorrow that will focus on more children in need beyond those affected by parental incarceration.

The NEW Visions of Tomorrow NC will begin the transition to a children’s support advocacy group that will focus on children at risk. We were most successful in our efforts concentrating on the needs of children and would like to build on that success and reach more North Carolina children in need.

Introducing the Visions of Tomorrow NC Scholarship Program

The Visions of Tomorrow NC Scholarship Program applications will be open the children in North Carolina whose family unit is disrupted by poverty, incarceration, sickness and parental loss.

It is the firm belief of the staff, administrators and our faith-based partners, advisors and guidance force that educational opportunities can make a difference in the lives of children of those who are most in need of a helping hand to lead them down the path of a new vision of tomorrow.

Recidivism

Recidivism is the tendency for a convicted criminal to re-offend.

A criminal justice system that emphasizes incarceration but does not support the journey home is a disservice to the formerly incarcerated as well as to the public.

Reducing recidivism is critical for community safety; providing effective rehabilitation and skill development for those incarcerated and formerly incarcerated is critical to strengthening households and the economy.

Our Mission

The umbrella of the Visions of Tomorrow NC Mission Statement is constantly evolving. Today, we aid during preparation for release as well as support for their children and families during incarceration. Our Vision for Tomorrow is to prepare individuals to re-enter their communities with hope, a unified family as well as the resources needed to avoid recidivism.

How We Work towards Fulfilling Our Mission:

Effective Representation:

We assist Families to maintain communications by helping them to navigate the complexities of the correctional institutions and system. We assist with placing families in contact with the appropriate officials for authoritative information about the institution of confinement. We aid families in navigating the complexities of the criminal justice system. We assist during incarceration to maintain family contact.

Family Relationships:

A principal cause of family disintegration is incarceration. Our goal is to maintain family relationships by assisting in maintaining constant communications with the incarcerated individual. We provide family support to loved ones after sentencing, ensuring that they have access to authoritative information. This includes vital contact information about visitation, location, phone, and funds.

Supporting the Children:

Those that least understand the system of incarceration, the Children, are the most affected by its consequences. Children of incarcerated individuals are faced with many challenges, including stress that affects their health, behavior, educational consistencies, social interactions as well as their emotional well-being. Children of those incarcerated are more apt to engage in anti-social behavioral patterns that may include aggressiveness, depression, delinquency, poor academic performance as well as a preponderance of substance abuse.

Visions of Tomorrow NC is actively addressing the needs of the Children in collaboration with partnering faith based and community organizations. Our focus is to identify and offer support to the Children of incarcerated individuals by helping them navigate the economic hardships, emotional stress, or health issues that they face.

In focusing on the Children, Visions of Tomorrow NC has held school supply, coat, and Christmas gift drives. Thanks to the generosity of our Members along with individual, business as well as corporate donors we have been able to distribute school supplies, coats, and Christmas gifts to the Children of those incarcerated. Our goal is to increase these programs in the coming years along with offering summer camp opportunities.

On the Horizon

As Visions of Tomorrow NC continues to grow thanks to the efforts of devoted volunteers, Members, Donors, and our Board of Trustees we look forward to increasing the success we have had in reduced recidivism among our program participants.

To maintain and expand our current support services Visions of Tomorrow NC relies on new Members, Volunteers as well as Individual, Business and Corporate Donors. Visions of Tomorrow NC does not receive any government funding.

Visions of Tomorrow NC is in constant need of Housing Resources, Job Training and Employment Opportunities for ex-offenders as they re-enter communities around the State.

We are always looking to partner with similarly minded social foundations and organizations who can provide relevant goods and services to further our Mission. Visions of Tomorrow NC welcomes the input of Faith-based and Community organizations who can help us accomplish common goals.

Working together to support, guide and offer hope to those who have been incarcerated, their children and families ultimately strengthens the Community as a whole. It is our belief, hope and goal that every person who is released from a North Carolina Correctional Facility will embrace a Vision of Tomorrow for themselves, their families along with their Communities.
