Welcome to about us
about visions of tomorrownc
Visions of Tomorrow NC is a nonprofit 501 c3 organization, with no fund allocation from any government institution. Our goal is to provide support to those incarcerated; who are treated unfairly to almost everything in life, even after release. Society makes it almost impossible to live a productive life after incarceration, causing them to regress. This is the major reason why crime is on the rise despite all attempts to reduce it.
Visions of Tomorrow NC was birthed with a vision to provide reentry support for those being released from NC prisons, provide educational resources to empower family members and friends in advocating for their loved ones, provide public awareness on the problems of incarceration of persons in society, and to proffer solutions for same. The organization is structured to reach out to every class of person that are currently having experiences of incarceration.
More About Us
People view prisons as dark worlds, far away and detached from their own. Since most people, generally, have no connection with prisons and the prisoners, these, therefore deserve none of their attention. Many are unaware of the systematic abuses that occur in prisons and some would even consider prisoners as somehow “deserving” of the abuse and inhumane conditions in which they live. This viewpoint neglects the fact that being punished and put behind bars means a loss of freedom and liberty, and that once imprisoned, your every move is controlled by the state.
Despite this truth, incomprehensible forms of torture take place daily behind prison walls that go far beyond the loss of freedom. It is this mentality that has allowed decades of cruelty and abuse to those we incarcerate.
Changing the Way, We Think About Imprisonment
Before we can begin to address Criminal Justice Reform laws with any sense of sincerity, we must end the culture of prison abuse through policy reform that mandates transparency and accountability from our Government Agencies. Corrections have autonomous and sovereign power over the lives of millions of people held in their custody. While governors have authority over correctional operations, rarely do they find cause for intervention, unless and until the media has publicly exposed internal corruption.
There are many hard working and dedicated correctional staff. Unfortunately, there are also staffers who are not suitable to be correctional officers. They are abusive, brutal and prey on vulnerable inmates and their families. Sadly, these same prison staff have been the cause and/or contributed to inmates’ deaths. Some correctional employees even promote violence, drug sales and illegal activities, and are involved in gang corruptions. Due to poor hiring and screening practices, some prison staff would bring with them issues like, domestic abuse, anger, violence, addiction and financial troubles into the workplace. Inmates can become easy targets for their frustrations.
What we Do
At Visions of Tomorrow NC, Our focus is solely on the inmates and we provide adequate support for them while in prison and upon release. We stand as advocates and champion the course of better welfarism on their behalves.
Also, because we are people-oriented, we understand the importance of having well-rounded activities that touches on the issues that have affected families who have had one or more of their family members incarcerated. In regards to this, we extend the reach of our services to families and not just the individual victims of incarceration. We believe the family is crucial to a person’s transition back into the society, hence the need to adequately equip it with every resource it needs; financially and in every otherwise. We have a well organized activities that include the considerable study of the problems encountered by incarcerated persons, as well as procuring solutions to these problems. Thus, our objective is directed towards achieving the effective integration of ex-prisoners back into the society without leaving them exposed to the common forms of discrimination that exists. We support the incarcerated and their families until they are properly integrated back into the society and are able to live their normal lives again. Also, we are into making the right moves, and creating awareness on the importance of criminal justice reform, and sensitizing people on the benefits it would bring to our collective security.
The diverse operations of Visions of Tomorrow NC depend largely on its members who continue to contribute in various ways to help the organization met its objectives. You can donate your quota to this honorable cause or volunteer to serve in any of our membership capacities to help the children of offenders or help those previously incarcerated individuals in ways that the government has failed to assist.
It doesn’t matter in which area you come in; our widespread operations require the input of a larger team to ensure that all previously incarcerated people under our program are catered for. By supporting the children with school supplies, clothing, Christmas gifts or aid offenders transitioning back to the community with housing support, job placement or continuous education, you are contributing to the goals of the organization.
